Jacquemart-André Museum collection
How the city mansion became a museum...
Widowed since the demise of Edouard André in 1894, Nélie Jacquemart herself passed away in 1912, at the age of 71. In her testament, the collector left the entirety of her possessions, including the city mansion on boulevard Haussmann and its collections, to the French state, in accordance with her late husband's wishes. However, the gift came with a mission: transform it into a museum and rapidly open it to the public.
